D.C.’s Poet Laureate Still Finds Inspiration In Her Native City
I pitched and reported this story on D.C’s Poet Laureate at the time, Dolores Kendrick, whose most recognized work, The Women of Plums: Poems in the Voices of Slave Women won an Anisfield-Wolf award, an honor recognizing literary works that shed light on issues of race in America. Her work has also been praised by Nobel Prize-winning writer Toni Morrison.
As the producer of this doc, I interviewed Kendrick, wrote the script, gathered sound and music, and did some of the photography for the web build.
